On Tuesday, Pon.Bike, one of the leading players in the global bicycle industry opened its new bicycle manufacturing facility in Lithuania. Lithuania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation and the Minister of Transport and Communications attended the opening ceremony of the factory within the Kėdainiai FEZ (Free Economic Zone). The sustainable building, spanning 40.000 square metres, houses bicycle assembly lines, painting facilities, a warehouse, and administrative premises.
The Pon.Bike bicycle factory is one of the largest investments in the Kėdainiai FEZ to date. This foreign direct investment project has been granted the status of a major investment project by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation.
“By developing the Pon.Bike factory in Kėdainiai, we have added a new chapter to our bicycle history that spans over a hundred years. We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to our many passionate new Lithuanian colleagues, local partners and authorities for bringing this impressive project to life. We look forward to many years of successful cooperation, manufacturing some of the most powerful bike brands in the industry, here in Kėdainiai”, says Janco van der Heiden, Vice President of Operations at Pon.Bike.
"The fact that a leading bicycle industry company with more than 2,000 employees worldwide has decided to locate in Kėdainiai is a very significant recognition for Lithuania and an important contribution to the economy of our country. This major investment project, one of the contracts signed by the Ministry, will help strengthen the region by attracting significant investment and creating around 600 jobs," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of Economy and Innovation.
The Kėdainiai factory is the seventh and most advanced Pon.Bike production facility to date, meeting the highest standards of sustainability and clean production. The company has other factories operating in the Netherlands, Germany, the USA, and Brazil.
“We have built a strong team of local managers and specialists who have integrated seamlessly into an international organization. We had the benefit of integrating best practices and the most advanced systems from across Pon.Bike, so from the start our facility is on par with the highest industry standards. As the process of hiring new employees continues, we strive for sustainable and gradual growth, while maintaining the highest quality”, says Algimantas Gedvilas, Plant Manager Pon.Bike Lithuania.
Kėdainiai will manufacture bikes for a wide variety of Pon.Bike brands. The majority of bikes built here will be e-bikes, considered the future of the market.
The Pon.Bike manufacturing facility in Kėdainiai is one of Lithuania's most advanced factories. It meets the stringent requirements of the BREEAM Excellent sustainable building certification. This certification evaluates environmental efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and employee well-being. The 40.000 sqm building will be in the A++ energy performance class.
