Meet Martynas. Every day, he makes sure the painting robot coats bicycle frames with the highest possible quality. As he explains:
“If you miss something, the frame can end up with a very poor paint finish.”
The painting robot works using an electrostatic process. Paint flows through a rotating disc, which sprays tiny droplets in all directions. An electrical charge then attracts those droplets to the frame's surface. Paint viscosity is also crucial – we adjust the robot according to the paint's viscosity to ensure an even and consistent coating.
The robot applies paint to most of the frame. However, where technology reaches its limits, people step in. Around 80% of the frame is coated by the robot, while the remaining areas are carefully finished by our painters.
When asked why he chose to work in the paint shop, Martynas smiles:
“I studied painting, so this job is the closest to my profession.”
Martynas also enjoys keeping the atmosphere in the team positive. As he jokes, he is often the one who starts the laughter:
“Work is simply more enjoyable when you're smiling.”
He also highlights the strong teamwork within the department:
“When our workload is lighter, we go and help our colleagues by changing paint or cleaning the equipment.”
One of our painters also speaks enthusiastically about her work. She is responsible for ensuring that every frame coming from the conveyor is finished to perfection.
“Whatever the robot can't paint, we have to complete to achieve the perfect result.”
Looking back on her first day, she admits she felt a little nervous. She had previously worked with wood finishing, so painting metal frames was a new experience.
“I wanted to learn everything quickly and do the job well. I was a bit stressed at first, but I adapted very quickly.”
When asked what motivates her, her answer is simple:
“I simply enjoy painting. I've been doing it for many years.”
She also emphasizes how important the team and her supervisor are to her.
“We have a very friendly team,” she says with a smile. “Especially our Team Leader, who knows how to bring everyone together.”
The team's positive atmosphere is created by everyone.
“Little by little, each of us contributes,” she explains. “We help one another and quickly work together to achieve our goal.”
The paint shop team describes itself in a simple but accurate way: friendly, strong, and always ready to help one another.
These are the people who ensure that every bicycle frame leaves the paint shop with its own unique colour.
In the next stage, the frames move to the team responsible for applying decals – the step where each bicycle receives its identity. 🤲
